After reading "Holes", I was happy to come upon another Sachar book. And having not had a lot of experience with kids, it took me a minute to get a lot of what was going on. Once I did, I enjoyed the story a lot more. The story was laugh-out-loud fun and the kids, innocent in their thoughts and the words that come out of their mouths, were loveable and often unpredictable.

The school is in this crazy 33-story high building with no elevator. I particularly like the way Sachar introduced a new character by giving us a thin background relating their history which helps us understand why they behave the way they do, which is as odd sometimes as the school itself. He even works himself into the book and according to his short bio on the cover, I would guess that a lot of the story is based on his real-life experiences.

I rate "The Wayside School Gets a Little Stranger" 5 out of 5 stars.
