Parents and Grandparents.....
This can be a tough category of books to review since this covers the ages between 13 and 18 - junior high to high school ages. Of course, if your child is precocious at age 13 they will be interested in this category of books. But if your 13 year old is less mature for their age, they might still be interested in some of the tween books that I've reviewed. A fan of J.C. Oates from my college days, I thought this was a great YA choice that my librarian, Holly, introduced me to. I was involved from the first page and although I thoroughly enjoyed the book, I was a little disturbed by the subject. A timely topic, Oates did a fantastic job of showing what happens when an off-hand comment, over-heard by “trouble-makers” is passed on to adults as the truth.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell is a well-written engaging book. I liked the characters (even the annoying ones – they served a purpose) and the semi-dramas that happened to twin sisters in their first year at college. This is real life stuff: first 'real' kisses by boyfriends, leaving home for first time and the family baggage that comes with you. Add to that a broken home (where the mom left) and a dad living on the edge of crazy. No wonder Cath, the main character, likes to live in a make-believe world created by someone else.

Hoot by Carl Hiaasen I love reading children's books (no surprise there, I guess) and add them into my book reading list as often as possible. I just finished a really good story, by Carl Hiaasen, called "Hoot". I've been especially interested in reading some of the prize winning novels and found out that his book "Hoot" was a Newbery Honor winner in 2002.
