I recently visited our local bookstore, one of my favorite places to hang out, and found a display rack of Roald Dahl books. Although most of the books I’ve read recently have been determined by the free books I find at our local swap shop, I decided to purchase a couple of these paperback treasures. Although I am in the middle of one novel, I started to read “The BFG” and before I knew it, I couldn’t put it down.

I love this book, the story, the misuse of language that was spoken by the BFG, and everything about this book. It is a wonderful story, with lots of good morals and food for thought scattered throughout. Without giving too much away, the Big Friendly Giant kidnaps Sophie from an orphanage and together they figure out a way to stop the big, bad, mean giants from eating ‘human beans’ for dinner. With the help of the Queen of England, the BFG and Sophie become heroes around the world.

This wonderful book was made into a movie by Steven Spielberg, and came out July 1, 2016. I looked forward to seeing it and found the movie was just as engaging and fun as the book was to read. Whether you read the book or see the movie or, as I did, do both, you will surely find yourself smiling through the wonderful, creative genius of Roald Dahl.

I rate "The BFG" 5 out of 5 stars.
