Flora and Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo and illustrations by K. G. Campbell is the Newbury Medal winner for 2014. When I started reading this book, a middle grade selection, I was pleasantly surprised at the combination of novel and comic strip.
The story was fun and a little kooky at times but very enjoyable. Any middle grade school child will love reading about the 'illuminated adventures' of Flora and her rescued squirrel, Ulysses.
I give Flora and Ulysses 4.5 out of 5 stars **** 1/2
