I loved The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing by Melissa Bank. I have to say, though, that the title threw me off and I wasn't interested in it based entirely on that. But I happened to come across a free copy of it and saw that it would be a quick read (I'm a slow reader so a book of many pages takes me longer than I usually want to spend on one book) and of course, once I read the back cover, thought I might enjoy it after all. And then once I started to read the book, I was hooked!

Ms. Bank has a great sense of humor and passed it on to her main character, Jane. Each chapter was a short story and stood on its own, but when read as part of a larger story, the entire book, each chapter added greatly to Jane's life story in interesting and unusual ways.

Definitely a chick book, we watch Jane bounce from one relationship to the next and back to a previous one. We want her to find love and when she finally finds it in the last chapter, she almost blows it because she isn't being herself but some shell of a Stepford woman who was created by two women that she has allowed into her head via a book they wrote on meeting and marrying Mr. Right. She follows the advice they give her throughout the chapter which is mostly the opposite of how she would behave. She thinks it is working with Robert, but she realizes, almost too late, that she has finally met her true mate for he likes her just the way she is, without the manipulating marriage counselors directing her every wrong move.

I rate The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing 4 out of 5 stars ****
